“Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain, no matter the physical age, to change throughout our entire lifetimes. We aren’t hardwired. Stop excusing bad attitudes, habits, and behaviors by saying, ‘I’m just wired that way.’ You are not.”
– Andrew D. Whitman, Seven Secrets of Resiliance for Parents
The older I get, the more I have to fight the tendency to feel like I am the way I am and there’s nothing I can do about it. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” my left brain says to my right brain.
Well how about you go fry a pickle, left brain. It’s simply not true. It’s always a process, always a journey. Success is really nothing more than the ability to constantly reinvent ourselves in the face of a constantly changing landscape.
I think in a lot of ways my adherence to this attitude is an excuse for laziness, motivated in fear of what might be possible if I truly excelled. It’s uncomfortable.
Well today I promise to never stop growing and learning and adapting, in every aspect of my life.
